Massimo Pastura - Cascina La Ghersa
Cascina La Ghersa is the estate of Massimo Pastura, the fourth generation of a family that replanted the Vignassa vineyard in 1925 and moved its cellar to Moasca in 1980. Massimo joined in 1989 and made the first separate Vignassa the same year.
The 22 hectares lie on the hills between Nizza Monferrato and Moasca, facing the Valle del Nizza, with further plots in Agliano Terme, Costigliole d'Asti, Gavi and, for Timorasso, the Colli Tortonesi. Barbera leads the range, from Piagè to the single-vineyard Muascae and Le Cave, alongside Gavi, Timorasso, Moscato and a Cortese, Chardonnay and Sauvignon white. The vineyards are worked on organic principles, with grass cover between the rows and no chemical fertilisers.
Moasca is a small village in the province of Asti, in the Barbera d'Asti area.
