Red
Langhe Rosso
By Massimo Abbate, Asti, Piemonte, Italy
A 100% Merlot from a 0.07 ha vineyard in Monta d'Alba, fermented in French oak vats and aged 18 months in barriques.
Tasting notes
Ruby red with violet reflections. A fine, elegant bouquet of plum, cherry and spice mixed with light balsamic notes. On the palate the sip is muscular and soft, with a rich, enveloping tannic texture.

- After careful hand selection at harvest, the grapes are softly crushed and destemmed. Fermentation and maceration take place in 500 L French oak vats for about 20 days at 26-28 °C, with only gentle punch-downs and no pump-overs, followed by malolactic fermentation in steel. The wine ages 18 months in second-passage French oak barriques on fine lees (battonage), then four months in steel. It is not filtered, only racked. Bottled in August, with a further four months in bottle before release.
