Alfiera
By Marchesi Alfieri, Asti, Piemonte, Italy
Community rating: 5 / 5 (1 readers)
Alfiera is a well-structured, elegant Barbera made exclusively from grapes grown on a 4.5-hectare historical vineyard of the same name.
Tasting notes
Dark, impenetrable ruby red, turning light garnet with age. Intense, complex bouquet of ripe cherries, wild berries and plums with vanilla and cocoa notes. Full-flavoured, well-structured and smooth, with a long fruity finish. Complexity increases with 2-3 years of bottle ageing, and it continues to develop for over ten years from harvest.
Pairs well with
Red meats and medium to long-matured, not blue, cheeses.
