Basinas
By Giovanni Daglio, Colli Tortonesi, Piemonte, Italy
Basinas is Daglio's Barbera from an 85-year-old vineyard on tufo soil, aged 12 months in barrique and a further 4 years in bottle before release.
Tasting notes
Ruby red with a garnet rim; a serious wine with tertiary notes of incense, wilted rose and tobacco. Warm on the palate, with robust, enveloping tannins and a retronasal persistence of over 10 seconds. The producer recommends opening it an hour before tasting.
Pairs well with
Piemontese meat dishes with enough intensity to stand up to the wine.
