A Roero Riserva DOCG from the Valmaggiore cru in Vezza d'Alba, aged 16 months in barrel and released three years after harvest.

Tasting notes

Delicate ruby red. Rich, immediate bouquet of violets, raspberries and blackberries with elegant spice. Rich and structured on the palate, with a crescendo of violet and cocoa leading to powerful, austere tannins and a persistent finish.

Pairs well with

Game roasts, braised and stewed meats, and cheeses.

Average vine age 35 years; altitude 260-300 m per the estate's territory page. The estate notes that Christine of France and Filippo d'Agliè made extensive use of Nebbiolo di Valmaggiore from 1640.
Vinification
Two green thinnings in August protect bunch quality; hand-harvested in two passes a week apart using perforated 18-20 kg crates. Fermented in steel for about two weeks with 40-45 days of maceration. Aged 16 months in barrels (part new, part used), where malolactic fermentation takes place, before blending in steel. Bottled in August and released a year later, three years after harvest.
