Massimo Rivetti

Massimo Rivetti

Massimo Rivetti is a family farm in Neive, run by the Rivetti family since 1947 and now in its third generation. Its historic base, Cascina Froi, is one of the oldest holdings in the area, with twelve hectares of vines split across the Rivetti and Serraboella subzones, and further parcels in Mango and Alba. Farming is organic throughout: no herbicides or pesticides, hand-mown cover crops of over twenty herb varieties, hand harvesting, and spontaneous fermentation with the vineyards' own yeasts. Reds built on old, low-yielding Nebbiolo and Barbera vines anchor the range, from Barbaresco Froi to the long-barrel-aged Riserva Serraboella and Riserva A Silvana, alongside Barolo, Langhe whites and Alta Langa sparkling wines. Neive is one of the communes of the Barbaresco DOCG, on the north bank of the Tanaro, a short drive from Alba.

Wines from Massimo Rivetti

  • A Silvana: Barbaresco DOCG Riserva, Nebbiolo 100%, Red. A tribute to the family's mother, Silvana. Written by hand in the historic Vigna Volpe vineyard with the best bunches and aged with patience for ten years, five of them in 1250-litre Slavonian oak barrels.
  • Aurelia: Langhe DOC Arneis, Arneis 100%, White. Grown on one of the highest, steepest plots in the area, a heroic vineyard worked mostly by hand. A very mineral, fresh and fragrant white.
  • Avene: Langhe DOC Nebbiolo, Nebbiolo 100%, Red. Grown on one of the highest, steepest plots in the area, a heroic vineyard worked mostly by hand. An elegant Nebbiolo with simpler tannins than a Barbaresco and good minerality.
  • Barbaresco: Barbaresco DOCG, Nebbiolo 100%, Red. Aged in large barrels of Slavonian oak for eighteen months, developing soft tannins and an elegant body.
  • Barolo: Barolo DOCG, Nebbiolo 100%, Red. Aged in large barrels of Slavonian oak for twenty-four months, developing significant tannins and a full body.
  • Botticella: Langhe DOC, Chardonnay 100%, White. Fermented and aged for a year in 1200-litre French oak "botticelle", a limited-edition white balanced between freshness and structure.
  • Extra Brut: Alta Langa DOCG, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sparkling. A classic-method sparkling wine made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, aged sur lie for at least thirty months.
  • Extra Brut Rosé: Alta Langa DOCG, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sparkling. A classic-method rosé sparkling wine made from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, aged sur lie for at least thirty months.
  • Froi: Barbaresco DOCG, Nebbiolo 100%, Red. Takes the name of the farmhouse, a selection of several vineyards around the winery, aged in large Slavonian oak barrels following the traditional Piemontese style. Elegant and fruit-forward.
  • Froi: Barbera d'Alba DOC, Barbera 100%, Red. Named after the farmhouse whose surrounding vineyards supply the grapes. Made in the traditional style, aged in cement and stainless steel. Fresh, fragrant and easy to drink.
  • Garasin: Langhe DOC, Cabernet Sauvignon 50%, Merlot 50%, Red. One of the estate's most international wines, a Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blend named after Cascina Garassino.
  • Langhe Pinot Noir: Langhe DOC, Pinot Noir 100%, Red. Made with grapes from the winery's vineyards in Mango at 500 m above sea level, fermented in French oak and aged in Austrian oak. A structured wine that shows the poise of a much older vintage.
  • Langhe Rosato: Langhe DOC Rosato, Rosé. Picked in the coolest hours of the day using dry ice to preserve the grapes' character, made for easy, everyday drinking.
  • Maggiorina: Moscato d'Asti DOCG, Moscato 100%, Sweet. Named after an ancestor of the Rivetti family, one of the first to plant Moscato in Neive. Grown on the Serraboella hill, with a good acidity-to-sugar balance that keeps it fresh and fragrant.
  • Senza Segreti: Barbera d'Alba DOC, Red. "Senza segreti" (without secrets) is made with the least possible cellar intervention, to let the vineyard and its ecosystem express themselves freely.
  • Serraboella: Barbera d'Alba DOC Superiore, Barbera 100%, Red. Made only in the best vintages from the oldest vineyard on the farm, on the Serraboella cru. A full-bodied wine with great longevity.
  • Serraboella: Barbaresco DOCG Riserva, Nebbiolo 100%, Red. Made only in the best vintages from the winery's oldest Nebbiolo vineyard, selected from the Serraboella cru. Significant, dry tannins and great longevity.
