Cascina Sòt

Cascina Sòt

Cascina Sòt is a small family estate in Monforte d'Alba, in the Bussia San Pietro area. The farmhouse is more than 400 years old. Maria and Giuseppe, who had worked the land as sharecroppers, bought the property in 1975, and their son Leonardo and his wife Silvana made wine the main business. Today Maurizio Sanso runs the estate with his parents and his sister Lorena.

The vineyards sit at about 350 metres between the Bricco San Pietro and Bricco San Giovanni hills, on clay and limestone soils. The range covers Barolo, including a Bricco San Pietro bottling and a Riserva, plus Langhe Nebbiolo, Barbera d'Alba, Dolcetto d'Alba, Piemonte Chardonnay, Langhe Nascetta and a rosé called Tramonto. Herbicides have been dropped in favour of grassing, and cellar temperatures are managed with the cold water of an old well. Monforte d'Alba is one of the eleven communes of the Barolo zone.
