Cantina Roggero
Roggero is a fifth-generation family estate in Albugnano, the highest village in the Basso Monferrato at 549 metres, roughly an hour from Torino and two hours from Milan. The Roggero surname has been on record there since 1742, and brothers Bruno and Marco now run the seven hectares of vineyard, with Bruno's son Mauro, a graduate in viticulture and oenology, overseeing the cellar. The vines sit on a south-facing slope at about 350 metres, farmed under integrated pest management with minimal chemical use. Nebbiolo, vinified alone, becomes the Albugnano DOC wines Il Giglio and the oak-aged Superiore 549; Freisa becomes the Superiore Dionisiaco; Barbera is bottled as Barbera d'Asti; Grignolino and Barbera are blended into a rosato; a rare local variety the family calls Montanera goes into Fortenera; and Viognier, which the family says shares ancestry with Nebbiolo and Freisa, completes the range. Roggero was a founding member of the Albugnano 549 producers association in 2017.

Wines from Cantina Roggero
- 549: Albugnano DOC Superiore, Nebbiolo 100%, Red. The estate's Superiore-level Albugnano DOC, named for Albugnano's roughly 549-metre altitude and aged 18 months in oak tonneau.
- Barbussa: Barbera d'Asti DOCG, Barbera 100%, Red. The estate's Barbera d'Asti DOCG, from vines planted in 2003.
- Dionisiaco: Freisa d'Asti DOC Superiore, Freisa 100%, Red. The estate's top Freisa, aged 12 months in tonneau and barrique; it won the quality-price award in Gambero Rosso's Berebene 2024 guide.
- Fortenera: Vino Rosso, Montanera, Red. A single-varietal red from Montanera, a nearly forgotten local grape the estate's home page calls capricious and in need of care; the estate's booking page describes the wine as extremely rare.
- Il Giglio: Albugnano DOC, Nebbiolo 100%, Red. The estate's base Albugnano DOC, a 100% Nebbiolo the estate's own booking page calls its most iconic wine, aged 10 months in steel and 4 months in bottle.
- Rosa d'Autunno: Piemonte DOC Rosato, Grignolino 60%, Barbera 40%, Rosé. A rosato blending Grignolino and Barbera from vines planted between 1966 and 2014.
- Vallàna: Piemonte DOC Viognier, Viognier 100%, White. A Piemonte DOC Viognier the estate grows partly because, as its home page notes, ampelographic studies show the variety's close kinship with Nebbiolo and Freisa.
