Liedholm

Liedholm is a family-run estate on the Monferrato hills above Cuccaro Monferrato, in the province of Alessandria. Nils Liedholm, the Swedish footballer nicknamed "Il Barone", bought the Villa Boemia property in 1973 and began bottling wine for the family in 1977. His son Carlo Liedholm ran the winery until 2015, when it passed to the Monte Ferrato Agricultural Society. Today the estate farms about 10 hectares and makes roughly 60,000 to 70,000 bottles a year under oenologist Mario Ronco, with Grignolino as its signature grape, from the everyday Bricco della Boemia to the long-aged reserve Monferace, alongside Barbera d'Asti, a red blend called Rosso della Boemia, and a Pinot Nero named Il Barone after the founder. The current cellar was built in 1985. Monferrato's vine-growing hills were named a UNESCO World Heritage landscape in 2014.
