Cascina Castlèt
Cascina Castlèt is a family estate in Costigliole d'Asti, in the Asti hills, run for generations by the Borio family. Mariuccia Borio took over from her father in 1970 and has shaped the wines and their distinctive labels ever since. The estate farms 31 hectares around Costigliole, growing Barbera and Moscato alongside the nearly forgotten local variety Uvalino, plus Nebbiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, the last planted here since the late 1700s. Wines age either in large traditional oak botti or in barriques depending on the cuvée, and Uvalino has been brought back from near extinction through the estate's own vineyard research. Passum and Avié are made with appassimento, the grape-drying technique Maria Borio is said to have been first to revive in Piemonte. Costigliole itself sits in the Monferrato hills east of the Tanaro, long regarded as a heartland of Barbera d'Asti.

- Ataj: Piemonte DOC Chardonnay, Chardonnay 100%, White. Chardonnay, a variety first planted in Costigliole in the early 1800s by the Marchese Filippo Asinari di San Marzano; the name Ataj was chosen from entries submitted by the estate's customers and friends in a naming…
- Avié: Piemonte DOC Moscato Passito, Moscato Bianco 100%, Sweet. A passito made from dried Moscato bianco grapes, fermented and aged in new Allier barriques for over eight months.
- Castlèt Rosé: Vino Rosato, Barbera, Nebbiolo (minor part), Rosé. A rosé made mostly from Barbera with a small part of Nebbiolo, from a brief skin contact and spring bottling.
- Goj: Barbera Monferrato DOC, Barbera 100%, Red. A young, lightly effervescent Barbera from the Asti hills, refermented naturally before bottling for its characteristic brio.
- Litina: Barbera d'Asti Superiore DOC, Barbera 100%, Red. Named after the aunt whose dowry included this Barbera vineyard, still farmed and vinified separately today.
- Moscato d'Asti: Moscato d'Asti DOCG, Moscato Bianco 100%, Sweet. An ancient Piemonte variety known since Roman times, made in the classic sweet, lightly sparkling Moscato d'Asti style.
- Passum: Barbera d'Asti Superiore, Barbera 100%, Red. Made from old, high-density Barbera vineyards using appassimento, the grape-drying technique that Maria Borio was, according to the estate, the first to revive in Piemonte; 2026 marks its 40th anniversary.
- Policalpo: Monferrato Rosso DOC, Barbera 60%, Cabernet Sauvignon 40%, Red. A Barbera-Cabernet Sauvignon blend named after the vineyard it comes from, with an experimental character the estate has kept over the years.
- Uceline: Monferrato Rosso DOC, Uvalino 100%, Red. Made from Uvalino, an almost-extinct local red variety the estate revived through its own vineyard research.
- Vespa: Barbera d'Asti DOCG, Barbera 100%, Red. The estate's simplest, most everyday Barbera d'Asti, deliberately left without a separate cuvée name; on the label and in the estate's own materials it goes by the nickname "Vespa", after the 1950s family photo on its…
