Cascina Ca'Rossa
Cascina Ca'Rossa has been the Ferrio family's farm in Canale d'Alba, in the Roero hills north of the Tanaro, since 1967, when Alfonso Ferrio bought the farmhouse known locally as the red house. His son Angelo began bottling under the family label in 1992 and shifted the focus from bulk grapes to quality through the 1990s, releasing the barrique-aged Nebbiolo from the Valmaggiore vineyard, Audinaggio, in 1996. The estate acquired the Mompissano vineyard in 1998 and was certified organic in 2012, the year Angelo's son Stefano, a graduate of Alba's enology school, joined the business.
Today the family farms 16 hectares and bottles around 100,000 bottles a year across nine labels, working parcels including Mulassa, Le Coste and Mompissano, mostly Nebbiolo and Arneis. Roero, on the left bank of the Tanaro, was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage wine landscape alongside the Langhe and Monferrato in 2014.
