Bussi Piero

Bussi Piero

Bussi Piero is a family estate in Calosso, in the Asti hills, worked by four generations and run since 2022 by Federico Bussi, who took over from his father Piero. About 12 hectares of vines stand in the Castagna locality at roughly 350 metres, a hill already named in the 1758 land registry. The family story starts with Agostino, born in 1900, who began bottling a little Barbera after the First World War. His son Germano added Moscato in 1968, and the estate grew around those two grapes. Today the range covers Barbera d'Asti in three versions, Moscato d'Asti, Alta Langa, Langhe Nebbiolo and Calosso DOC, made from the rare Gamba di Pernice grape. Piero also wrote a local history book, Gente di Calosso, in 2000. Calosso lies in the province of Asti, on the Monferrato side of the border with the Langhe, and the winery is about 20 minutes by car from both Asti and Alba.
