Red
Pre-Phylloxera
By Elvio Cogno, Barolo, Piemonte, Italy
Barbera from one of the last archaic vineyards of the Langhe, a small plot in Berri near La Morra with vines over a hundred years old on their own roots. Only about 2,000 bottles are made.
Tasting notes
Bright, rich ruby with intense purplish highlights. Spices first, then raspberry, strawberry and ripe cherry, with wild flowers on the finish. Structured and fresh, with embracing tannins and flavors of sour cherries, blackberries and prunes.
Pairs well with
Starters, meaty sauces, red or wild meat, strong savory or seasoned cheeses.
