Derthona
By Cantina di Tortona, Colli Tortonesi, Piemonte, Italy
Derthona is Cantina di Tortona's Timorasso, a variety documented in the Tortona area since the fourteenth century and revived from the 1980s by local growers after phylloxera and the spread of red varieties had nearly wiped it out; it is now produced across the Curone, Grue, Ossona and Borbera valleys.
Tasting notes
Deep straw yellow. Enveloping on the nose with notes of ripe apricot, thyme and linden, over which flint starts to emerge. On the palate its warm fullness is balanced by lively acidity and a very long, savoury finish.
