Podere ai Valloni
Podere ai Valloni is a family estate on a hill above Boca, in the Novara part of Alto Piemonte. Guido and Cristiana Sertorio took over the abandoned house and vineyard in 1980 and named it Vigna Cristiana; today Anna and her husband Andrea run it, with the next generation coming up. The farmhouse is built around an 18th-century observatory, with the woods of the Monte Fenera natural park behind it. The three hectares of Guyot-trained vines stand at 480 metres on volcanic porphyry, and the estate has been certified organic since 2011. It makes about 12,000 bottles a year from its own grapes: Boca, the estate's first wine, blended from Nebbiolo, Vespolina and Uva Rara and aged in large oak, plus Gratus, Péperi and Sass Russ. Boca is one of the small Nebbiolo appellations of Novara province, and the porphyry here is the remains of the Valsesia supervolcano.
