F.lli Cigliuti
F.lli Cigliuti is a family estate in the Serraboella hamlet of Neive, in the heart of Barbaresco. Renato's grandfather and great-uncle sold grapes and bulk wine here until 1964, when Renato released his first 300 bottles of Barbaresco, turning the family from grape growers into producers. Four generations on, Renato and his wife Dina work the vineyards with their daughters Claudia and Silvia, who see every wine through from vine to bottle. The estate farms two crus: Serraboella, where limestone-rich ground favors Nebbiolo and clay pockets suit Barbera, and Bricco di Neive, a sandier hill just across from the hamlet. Fermentation is spontaneous, without cultured yeast, and the wines age in wood, largely big casks of Slavonian oak. About 40,000 bottles come out of the cellar each year. Neive sits at the eastern edge of the Barbaresco DOCG zone, a few kilometres from Alba.
