Claudio Alario
Claudio Alario's family has grown vines in Diano d'Alba for three generations. His grandfather Matteo, once a sharecropper in La Morra, bought land here in 1963 and stayed through the years when many in the Langhe left for the cities. The estate has bottled under its own name since 1988.
Alario works only with Piemonte's native varieties: Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto. Around the winery in Diano d'Alba sit three Dolcetto vineyards, Sorì Costa Fiore, Sorì Montagrillo and Sorì Pradurent, and the old Valletta vineyard for Barbera. For Nebbiolo, single parcels in Serralunga d'Alba, Sorano and Cerretta, and in Verduno, Riva Rocca, go into the estate's Barolos, while a separate Nebbiolo d'Alba, Cascinotto, is made with the same care as the Barolos. Diano d'Alba sits in the Langhe hills between Alba and Dogliani, and gives its name to the Dolcetto di Diano d'Alba DOCG; Verduno is the northernmost of the Barolo communes.

Wines from Claudio Alario
- Cascinotto: Nebbiolo d'Alba DOC, Nebbiolo 100%, Red. Conceived as a 'small Barolo', made with the same techniques used for the estate's Barolos. The vineyard has been farmed for almost forty years.
- Cerretta: Barolo DOCG, Nebbiolo 100%, Red. Added to the range from the 2022 vintage, also from the municipality of Serralunga d'Alba. The soil, rich in limestone and silt, gives the wine a solid, robust style.
- Riva Rocca: Barolo DOCG, Nebbiolo 100%, Red. Claudio Alario's first Barolo, born in this Verduno vineyard in 1995. Fine tannic structure, an elegant palate and a distinctive character.
- Sorano: Barolo DOCG, Nebbiolo 100%, Red. The municipality of Serralunga d'Alba has always produced Barolo wines with thicker and deeper tannins. Sorano stands out for its fullness of flavour, enhanced with 12 months in barriques followed by 12 months in large…
- Sorì Costa Fiore: Dolcetto di Diano d'Alba DOCG, Dolcetto 100%, Red. The estate's Dolcetto vineyard with the greatest historical value, with very low yields, giving a concentrated and intense wine.
- Sorì Montagrillo: Dolcetto di Diano d'Alba DOCG, Dolcetto 100%, Red. A historically important parcel with south-easterly exposure, giving an aromatic, very drinkable Dolcetto.
- Sorì Pradurent: Dolcetto di Diano d'Alba Superiore DOCG, Dolcetto 100%, Red. A wine unique in its kind, from vines produced by mass selection, aged longer than the estate's other Dolcetti for extra intensity and structure.
- Valletta: Barbera d'Alba Superiore DOC, Barbera 100%, Red. Comes from the estate's oldest vineyard, which gives top quality grapes every year: a wine built to be enjoyed young but with good potential for ageing in the cellar.
