Cecilia Monte
Cecilia Monte runs a small family estate in Neive, on the northern edge of the Barbaresco zone. She took over the family vineyards in 2000, straight after university, turning grapes that had long been sold off into wine bottled under her own name; her father Paolo still works alongside her. The estate farms about 3.5 hectares in the Serracapelli hamlet, some rows around 50 years old, growing Dolcetto, Barbera and, above all, Nebbiolo. From this fruit come five wines: Dolcetto d'Alba Montubert, Barbera d'Alba Maria Teresa, Langhe Nebbiolo Ca' di Monti, and two Barbaresco crus from Serracapelli, one of them dedicated to Paolo and drawn from the oldest, most distinctive rows he set aside himself. Neive is one of the four communes of the Barbaresco DOCG, and Serracapelli sits at its cooler, northern limit, bordering the hazelnut groves of Castagnole Lanze.
