Broglia - Tenuta La Meirana

Broglia - Tenuta La Meirana

Broglia is the family behind Tenuta La Meirana, at the Gavi end of Piemonte. Bruno Broglia, a textile entrepreneur, bought the estate in 1972 and the first Broglia wine was bottled in 1974; the third generation, Roberto and Filippo with Bruno, runs it today. The estate covers 100 hectares, of which more than 70 are planted only to Cortese, which the family describes as the largest single contiguous property in the Gavi appellation. The name La Meirana is recorded in a document from 972 held in Genoa. The cellar, designed by Luigi Vietti in 1983, uses stainless steel only. The oldest vineyard, six hectares planted in 1953, gives Bruno Broglia and Vecchia Annata, and a vineyard in the grounds of Villa Broglia gives its own Gavi. The range also includes Timorasso, Pinot Nero, Nebbiolo, Moscato d'Asti and sparkling wines. Gavi lies in the far south-east of Piemonte, on the Ligurian side, and is the home of the Cortese grape.
