Bondi
Bondi is a seven-hectare family estate in the hills above Ovada, in the south of Alessandria province. The Bondi family bought Cascina Banaia in 2000 and restored vineyards planted in the mid-1960s, adding new plantings chosen for low yields. The vines sit at an average of about 730 metres on calcareous soil, with the Colle della Banaia facing south. The estate works with the local varieties Dolcetto and Barbera, and makes six wines: Ansensò, Banaiotta, D'uien, Le Guie, Nani and Ruvrin, from steel-aged Dolcetto to a barrique-aged Barbera. The same family also runs the Locanda dell'Olmo restaurant in Bosco Marengo. Ovada is the home town of the Dolcetto d'Ovada appellation, and the Cappellette area where the vineyards lie is one of its older winegrowing districts.
