Monfortino Riserva
By Giacomo Conterno, Barolo, Piemonte, Italy
First made after Giacomo Conterno returned from the First World War, Monfortino was one of the earliest Barolos built for serious ageing, named for the family's home village of Monforte d'Alba.
Tasting notes
Leather, liquorice, incense and dried rose petal, with darker, more brooding fruit than Francia, imposing tannins and extraordinary length. Considered by many the greatest expression of Nebbiolo made anywhere.
