Red
Pianazzi
By Francesca Castaldi, Alto Piemonte, Piemonte, Italy
An easy-drinking, fruit-forward red made with light extraction from the same Belvedere and Pianazze vineyards as Bigin.
Tasting notes
Pale ruby red. Fruit-forward on the nose, opening into floral notes on the finish. Crisp young red fruit on the palate, with plenty of freshness and an enveloping saline quality.
Pairs well with
An everyday wine that suits light dishes as well as cured meats and cheeses.

- Production area
- 3 hectares in the Belvedere and Pianazze vineyards in the municipality of Briona, on a plateau warmed by the sun from early morning to sunset.
- Soil
- Surface clay with pebbles and sand in the deeper layers.
- Exposure
- Full sun from early morning to sunset; Monte Rosa air currents bring temperature swings that enhance the grapes' aromas.
- Harvest
- Picked slightly early to preserve freshness and fruit.
- Vineyard planting
- Planted 1997/1998.
- Vinification
- Grapes are destemmed and the must macerates for about 3 days in cement tanks, where native yeasts start alcoholic fermentation. After this brief maceration the wine finishes fermenting off the skins; the light extraction gives an easy-drinking, dynamic wine that still expresses the typical character of Alto Piemonte in a younger, brighter style.
- Serving temperature
- Also good served slightly cooler than usual.
