Tenuta Montemagno

Tenuta Montemagno

Tenuta Montemagno is a 16th-century estate at Montemagno, in the Asti hills of Alto Monferrato, run by the Barea family with Tiziano Barea as president. Restoration began in 2005, the first Mysterium harvest followed in 2006 and the first bottling in 2007. A five-star relais, restaurant and spa now share the property with the cellar.

About 100 hectares of vines face south-west on clay and limestone soils around Montemagno and the neighbouring communes of Altavilla, Viarigi and Casorzo. Gianfranco Cordero is the consulting oenologist. The range centres on local grapes: Barbera d'Asti, Grignolino, Ruchè, Malvasia di Casorzo and Timorasso, with a rosé Metodo Classico, TM Brut, and a Barolo, Soranus, made from Nebbiolo in La Morra. Sulphur dioxide is kept low, and the certified figures are published on the wine sheets.
