Marchese Luca Spinola
Marchese Luca Spinola is the Spinola family's wine estate at Cascina Massimiliana in Rovereto di Gavi. Andrea Spinola took it over in 2006, after leaving a corporate career in Milan, and built it up vineyard by vineyard with oenologist Vincenzo Munì and agronomist Davide Ferrarese. The vines stand around 200 metres above sea level and the whole range is organic Cortese: two Gavi del Comune di Gavi (Massimiliano, fermented in barrique, and the lighter Carlo), a Gavi del Comune di Tassarolo, a cloudy ancestral-method frizzante called Marchese col fondo, and a Gavi Metodo Classico. The estate also makes a KLBD-certified Kosher version of Carlo, which it describes as the first Kosher Gavi. About 80 percent of the wine is exported. Gavi lies in the south-east corner of Piemonte, in the province of Alessandria, and the grape here is Cortese; the DOCG was granted in 1998.
