La Montagnetta

La Montagnetta

La Montagnetta is the small estate of Domenico Capello, known as Mimmo, at Bricco Capello, a hamlet a little over a kilometre from Roatto in the Asti hills. Born in Turin, he worked for the state railways until a tasting course in 1998 turned his interest to wine, and he became a full-time grower, with vineyards at Roatto, Piovà Massaia and San Paolo Solbrito, long known for Freisa, Barbera and Bonarda.

Freisa is the estate's flag. It appears as Bugianen (Freisa d'Asti Superiore, aged in tonneau), Anphora (aged in terracotta), La Svista and the lightly sparkling I Ronchi, alongside the rosato Il Ciarét and the Metodo Classico Pas Dosé La Donna Nervosa. Barbera comes as P-Tic and the barrique-aged Piovà, with Viognier (A-Stim) and Chardonnay (La Fiur) for the whites. Soils are medium-textured clay at about 250 metres.
