I Dof Mati

I Dof Mati is a small estate in Fara Novarese, in the Novara hills of Alto Piemonte, founded in 2016 by two friends who took over old, abandoned vineyards in Ghemme and Sizzano. The name comes from local dialect and means "the two girls," a nod to the founders themselves. They farm native Alto Piemonte varieties, Nebbiolo, Vespolina and Erbaluce, and build their five labels around a set of chess pieces, from pawn to king. The range runs from a steel-aged Erbaluce and a spiced Vespolina to an atypical pure Merlot and a Ghemme DOCG built mostly from Nebbiolo and meant for long ageing.

Alto Piemonte sits north of Barolo and Barbaresco country, around Gattinara and Ghemme, a smaller Nebbiolo-based zone that has long lived somewhat in the shadow of the Langhe.
