Alberto Oggero

Alberto Oggero

Alberto Oggero is a small family estate in Santo Stefano Roero, on the sandy hills north of the Tanaro that give the Roero its name. It carries the name of its owner, who learned from his grandfather Sandro that wine keeps its own time and asks only to be accompanied, not rushed. That patience guides vineyard and cellar alike: farming has been certified organic since 2014, and the wines ferment with indigenous yeasts, go unfined and unfiltered, and age in cement or large oak depending on the label. Five wines, all Arneis and Nebbiolo from the estate's own sandy plots: Sandro the easy everyday red, Roero Arneis the table white, Anime and Le Coste each from a single named vineyard.

Roero sits on the left bank of the Tanaro, facing Barolo and Barbaresco across the river. Its sandy, fossil-rich soils, laid down by an ancient sea, give Roero DOCG reds and Roero Arneis DOCG whites their characteristic lift and minerality.
