Vaira Aurelj
Vaira Aurelj is a two-brother estate in Vergne, a Langhe hamlet that has recently been divided among the municipalities of Barolo, La Morra and Narzole. Francesco and Giacomo Vaira started the label in memory of their father Aurelio, after working in established cellars of the area, and they have farmed their own Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto for about ten years. The estate is about 4.35 hectares, worked by the brothers themselves, organically though without certification, with biodynamic trials since 2022. Only the Fossati cru and the Vigna del Pensiero can carry the DOCG name, so the family bottles the rest of its Nebbiolo as FZ and Controcorrente, labels outside any denomination. The first Barolo Fossati came out in 2024, together with a Dolcetto d'Alba made with the charity Le Fontane. Vergne sits in the Langhe hills a short drive from the town of Barolo.
