Pierangelo Careglio

Pierangelo Careglio

Cantina Careglio is a family estate in Aprato, a hamlet of Baldissero d'Alba in the Roero. Pierangelo Careglio took over the farm from his father Matteo in 1986 and replaced the fruit orchards with vines. His son Andrea, trained at the Alba enological school, now runs the business, and a new winery was built in 2019. The ten hectares lie on the hills of Costabella and Valmezzana, above 300 metres, on sand mixed with clay and limestone. Roero Riserva and Roero Arneis are the core wines, joined by the aged Arneis Savij, Langhe Favorita, Langhe Nebbiolo, Barbera d'Alba and a rosé called Gramplin. The estate has followed its Green Experience programme since 2016, with no chemical herbicides in the turf. The Roero lies on the left bank of the Tanaro, on soils younger than those of the Langa.
