Morgassi Superiore
Morgassi Superiore is a family estate in Case Sparse Sermoria, a hamlet in the comune of Gavi, in Alessandria province. The vineyards sit at about 300 metres on marl, chalk and clay soils, and the grapes are picked by hand into crates. Cortese is the backbone of the range, in three bottlings of Gavi del Comune di Gavi DOCG called Passo, Tuffo and Volo. All three are fermented in stainless steel, and the two longer-lived ones are chilled overnight before pressing and rest on their lees. The fourth wine is Timorgasso, a Monferrato Bianco DOC from Timorasso, kept at least 18 months in bottle before release. The estate takes its emblem from the Pistrice, a mythological creature at home on land, sea and air.\n\nGavi lies at Piemonte's southern edge, close enough to Liguria that sea air reaches the vineyards, a maritime influence widely credited with the appellation's trademark freshness.
