Le Cecche
Le Cecche is a small hamlet of Diano d'Alba, one of the eleven Barolo communes. The Marengo family held it for a long period, and in 2001 it was bought by Jan De Bruyne, a Belgian physician, and his Italian wife, Marchioness Paola Invrea. After restoring the buildings and building a new winery, they planted Barbera, Nebbiolo and Merlot on the south and southwest slopes around the house and restored an old Dolcetto vineyard from the 1950s.
The estate now owns 8 hectares, including Barolo parcels in Sorano (Serralunga d'Alba), Borzone (Grinzane Cavour) and Bricco San Pietro (Monforte d'Alba), plus a white-wine vineyard planted in 2008 at 750 m in Bossolasco. Production has grown from 3,000 bottles in 2002 to 40,000, and Piero Ballario is the consultant winemaker. Diano d'Alba is best known for Dolcetto, and the estate also lets three guest rooms.
