La Toledana

La Toledana

La Toledana is a Gavi estate owned by the Martini family, which also runs the wider Fratelli Martini Secondo Luigi company. It takes its name from the Renaissance villa built in the first half of the 16th century by the Genoese Imperiale family, later held by the Lercari and Cambiaso families. The villa looks over 25 hectares of Cortese, spread across plots that differ in exposure, slope and soil. The Cambiaso marquis, then owners of the Toledana and Centuriona estates, planted some of the first large Cortese vineyards for dry white wine in 1856. Today the estate makes only Gavi: Vigne Rade, a Gavi del Comune di Gavi from widely spaced rows, and a Cortese del Comune di Gavi kept nine years in stainless steel. Gavi sits in the province of Alessandria, close to the Ligurian border, and its white wine has held DOCG status since 1998.
