Virna Borgogno

Virna Borgogno

Virna Borgogno is a family estate on the edge of Barolo village, with vineyards that go back to 1720 and a modern cellar founded in 1950 by Enrico Borgogno. Virna was the first woman in Italy to graduate in oenology and joined her father Lodovico in the cellar in 1988. Today she runs the estate with her sister Ivana, who looks after administration and marketing. About ten hectares lie in Barolo's named crus: Cannubi, Sarmassa and Preda in Barolo itself, with parcels in Novello, Monforte and La Morra for the classic Barolo Noi. Barbera d'Alba San Giovanni comes from Monforte. The wines follow the traditional Langhe approach, with ageing in large oak casks and, for the crus, some tonneaux. The estate follows the Green Experience protocol, uses no herbicides and runs on its own solar power. The tasting room looks over the Cannubi hill.
