Vigneti Massa
Vigneti Massa is the family estate of Walter Massa in Monleale, in the Colli Tortonesi hills between Tortona and Genoa. The Massa family has farmed here since 1879, and the property now covers 23 hectares at about 300 metres, on soils that run from clay and chalk to stone and sand.
The estate is best known for the Derthona whites made from Timorasso, the local white grape that was long underrated and has been rediscovered largely through Walter's work. Costa del Vento, Montecitorio, Sterpi and Piccolo Derthona each go through a cold maceration of about 40 hours, then roughly twelve months on the lees in stainless steel with regular batonnage. The range also includes a red, Sentieri, a rosato, Libertà, and a young, crisp wine for everyone, Implicito. Every bottle has an NFC cap that links to a record of that bottle.
