Terre Astesane

Terre Astesane

Terre Astesane is the cooperative cellar of Mombercelli, founded in 1901 and among the oldest co-operatives in Piemonte. It stands under the village's medieval castle in the middle of the Valle Tiglione, in the Asti hills. About 130 members in Mombercelli, Vinchio, Agliano, Belveglio and Montaldo Scarampi farm 220 hectares of vines, and since 2015 the cellar has also owned 26 hectares of its own, 11 of them planted to vine. It makes around 15,000 hectolitres a year, 70% of it Barbera d'Asti, alongside Grignolino, Cortese, Brachetto, Chardonnay and Freisa. The list runs from everyday Barbera and Cortese through Nizza, Nizza Riserva and Ruchè to Alta Langa and other sparklers. The site describes soils that were once seabed, with fossils and sand under the rows.
