Tère Rüse

Tère Rüse

Tère Rüse is the organic farm of Gregorio Pichoud and his partner, set in the hills of Mombaruzzo in the province of Asti, a few kilometres from Nizza Monferrato. The company is registered as Le Terre Rosse di Mombaruzzo, a nod to the red, clayey soil the vines grow on. Vineyard work is mostly by hand, with hedges, nesting boxes and green-manure mixes left to build biodiversity. Fermentations start on native yeasts, and amphorae of Impruneta terracotta sit at the centre of the cellar: Dui Luc, an orange wine with eight months on the skins, the Barbera El Do Tère and the pas dosé rosé sparkling Fèstegè are all made in them. Bèl e Pian, a Freisa aged for years in oak, and La Giùvna, a Barbera d'Asti, round out the range. Mombaruzzo is one of the Nizza communes, in a zone where Barbera is the main grape.

Wines from Tère Rüse

  • Bèl e Pian: Freisa d'Asti Superiore DOC, Freisa, Red. The estate's long-aged Freisa, a native grape closely related to Nebbiolo, with marked acidity and tannin.
  • Dui Luc: Vino Bianco, White. An orange wine, fermented in amphora with eight months of skin contact.
  • El Do Tère: Vino Rosso, Barbera, Red. Named for the two earths: the red, clayey soil of the estate's oldest Barbera vineyard and the terracotta of the amphorae in which the grapes are vinified.
  • Fèstegè: Vino Spumante di Qualità, Freisa, Sparkling. A pas dosé rosé sparkling wine made by the traditional method in amphora, with no added sulphites.
  • Il Conquistatore: Vino Rosso, Pinot Nero 100%, Red. The only international variety on the estate, a pure Pinot Nero from vines about 50 years old, bottled unfiltered.
  • La Vegià: Vino Rosso, Barbera, Red. A red from the Nizza Monferrato side of the estate, aged in large barrel.
  • Piasì: Vino Rosso, Red. A red from dried grapes, vinified on the skins in amphora and sold in 37.5 cl bottles, the only half bottle in the range.
