Silvano Nizza

Silvano Nizza runs this family estate in Santo Stefano Roero, in the hills on the left bank of the Tanaro across from the Langhe. The winery dates its Piedmontese winemaking to 1957, when his father Sandro and his uncle Alfredo began. The vineyards lie around Santo Stefano Roero, Canale and Montà, on the sandy, ochre-coloured soils of the Roero.

Arneis is the main white, bottled as a stainless steel Roero Arneis and as Il Santo Stefano, aged in barrique. Nebbiolo gives Roero, the Riserva Ca' Boscarone and Nebbiolo d'Alba. The range also includes Barbera d'Alba, a Nebbiolo rosato called Cantè, the sweet Brachetto Birbèt and Nizza Royale, a sparkling Arneis made by the Martinotti method.
