Davide Cavelli

Davide Cavelli

Davide Cavelli is the latest generation to run this family estate in Prasco, on the road to Ovada in the province of Alessandria, where his great-grandfather Pietro began making wine in 1907. The property covers about eleven hectares, nine of them under vine, on steep slopes facing south-east to south-west around 295 metres above sea level. Grapes are still picked by hand with secateurs, and the cellar mixes fibreglass and steel tanks with older cement vats. The estate's best known wine is Bricco Le Zerbe, an Ovada DOCG Riserva from old, low-yield vines, alongside Barbera del Monferrato, Dolcetto d'Ovada, Nebbiolo, Cortese and a Charmat-method sparkling wine. Ovada, just down the road, gives its name to one of Piemonte's more structured expressions of Dolcetto.
