Colombera & Garella

Colombera & Garella

Colombera & Garella is a small family estate in Masserano, in the Alto Piemonte hills of Biella province. The project took its name in 2010, when Giacomo Colombera joined forces with Cristiano Garella around vines his parents Carlo and Michela had bought at Cascina Cottignano in 1992. Giacomo's brother Guglielmo, winemaker since 2018, now works alongside him.

The estate farms about 7 hectares: just over 4 in the Bramaterra denomination, across the Cottignano, Pian di Peu and Cavazucchi vineyards in Masserano and Brusnengo, and just under 3 in Lessona. Only native grapes go into the wines, Nebbiolo, Croatina and Vespolina, farmed without chemical herbicides and vinified with minimal intervention, left to find their own pace toward maturity. Bramaterra and Lessona are two of Alto Piemonte's smaller Nebbiolo-based DOCs, grown on volcanic porphyry and ancient marine sands in the provinces of Biella and Vercelli, north of the Langhe.
