Cà Bensi

Cà Bensi

Cà Bensi began in 1955, when Ettore Robbiano, then a tenant on a Spinola family farm at Lerma, bought the Cascina Bensi just over the border in Tagliolo Monferrato. He planted more vines beside the small existing vineyard and made Dolcetto, sold mostly loose at first and carried out in wooden casks on an ox cart. His sons Giorgio and Angelo grew the vineyards and the cellar, and since the early 2000s Federico has run the vines and winemaking while Daniela runs the family agriturismo, open since 2006.

The wines stay local: Ovada DOCG, Dolcetto di Ovada, Barbera del Monferrato, Monferrato Bianco, Piemonte Cortese, a rosé and several reds. The farm also runs two sun-tracking solar arrays. Tagliolo sits in the Ovada hills of the Alto Monferrato, the home ground of Dolcetto di Ovada.
