Villa Guelpa

Villa Guelpa

Villa Guelpa is the home and cellar of the Dinoia family in Lessona, Alto Piemonte. Daniele Dinoia, a winemaker who worked for other estates first, took over the nineteenth-century villa beside the Strona stream and brought its cellar back to use, while his wife Sonia looks after hospitality. The first wines in the current range date from 2016. About 25,000 bottles a year come from small parcels on very different soils along the eighth meridian east, which gives the Longitudine 8 wines their name: the number after it is the parcel. Nebbiolo is the main grape, with Vespolina and Uva Rara in the blends and Erbaluce for the white. Alongside the Lessona and the Colline Novaresi wines there are small amounts of Sizzano and Boca. The soils of Alto Piemonte are acidic and almost free of limestone, which suits Nebbiolo.
