Vigne Marina Coppi

Vigne Marina Coppi

Vigne Marina Coppi is a small family estate in Castellania, in the Colli Tortonesi hills of the province of Alessandria. Francesco Bellocchio started it in 2003, drawn back to the village where his grandfather, the cyclist Fausto Coppi, was born in 1919. His wife Anna has worked beside him since the first harvest in 2005, and his parents Giovanni and Marina help too. The vineyards cover a few hectares, farmed directly with Guyot training, grass between the rows, no herbicides and no chemical fertilisers, and the grapes are picked by hand. About 25,000 bottles are made each year. Timorasso is the main white, with Favorita, and Barbera leads the reds, with a little Nebbiolo and Croatina. The Timorasso Fausto is named for the grandfather, and the Barbera I Grop takes its name from the fossil-rich limestone boulders on its slope.
