Spirito Agricolo Ballarin
Spirito Agricolo Ballarin grows out of Cascina Ballarin, founded in 1928 when Giovanni Ballarin bought land at Annunziata in La Morra and at Bussia in Monforte. In 2022 his grandsons Gianni and Giorgio chose to farm independently, and Gianni began Spirito Agricolo Ballarin with his daughter Cecilia, who studied oenology.
They work 7 hectares, 5 of them vines, certified organic from the 2022 vintage and Demeter biodynamic from 2023. Gianni took a master distiller's course in 2015, so the pomace and apples of old varieties are distilled into grappa and eaux-de-vie, and the residues are composted and returned to vineyard and orchard. The wines come from long macerations and patient ageing. La Morra, where the estate sits, is one of the Barolo communes, and the family also runs the Viticcio agriturismo on the farm.
