Franco Roero

Franco Roero

Franco Roero is a fourth-generation family estate on the Zucchetto hill in Montegrosso d'Asti. Vincenzo Roero bought the farmhouse in 1901 at the age of 65 and planted the first vines with his sons Marcello and Egidio. Vittorio added land and started bottling in the 1970s, Franco took the helm in the mid-1980s, and Gianluca now writes the next chapter.

The vineyards are a mosaic of small plots on the slopes of the Tiglione valley, between the Langhe and Monferrato. Every vine is worked by hand, with tractors kept for grass and treatments. In the cellar the wines are made without oxygen, which allows very little sulphur, and Barbera is the centre of the range. The family also works Grignolino and Chardonnay. Montegrosso d'Asti sits in the Barbera d'Asti hills of Asti province.
