Casavecchia

Casavecchia

Casavecchia is a family estate in the centre of Diano d'Alba, run by brothers Marco, an agronomist, and Luca, the winemaker, with their father Sergio still advising. The house dates to the late 1700s and is built of Langa stone and old brick. Wines are made only from the family's own grapes, grown on about 10 hectares. The cellar sits in the basement under brick vaults: Diano d'Alba matures in concrete tanks, while Barbera, Nebbiolo and Barolo age in oak casks of various sizes. The range centres on single-vineyard Dolcetto sold simply as Diano d'Alba (Sori Bruni and Sori Richin), Nebbiolo d'Alba, Barbera d'Alba Superiore, and Barolo and Barolo Riserva from Castiglione Falletto. The estate says it releases wines two to three years after the minimum ageing required. Diano d'Alba sits on a hill of about 500 metres, looking to the Barolo hills and Alba.
