Cantine Garrone
Cantine Garrone is a family winery in Oira di Crevoladossola, at the northern edge of Alto Piemonte, in a valley where wine has been documented since 1309. The Garrone family has tended these vineyards since 1920, reviving a mountain wine culture that had nearly disappeared after phylloxera struck the area. Today the fourth generation, Roberto, Mario, Marco and Matteo, farms about 11 hectares and makes 50,000 to 60,000 bottles a year, drawing grapes from its own land and from smallholders who work old plots that would otherwise be lost. The estate is built around Prünent, the local name for an ancient mountain clone of Nebbiolo, alongside Croatina, Merlot and Chardonnay. Vines climb steep, terraced Alpine slopes held by dry stone walls, trained in the traditional Toppia pergola and worked by hand from pruning to harvest. Valli Ossolane, the DOC covering these valleys near the Swiss border, is one of Piemonte's smallest and most northerly wine zones.

Wines from Cantine Garrone
- Cà d’Maté: Valli Ossolane DOC Rosso, Nebbiolo, Croatina, Red. Named after the estate's 1598 stone cellar where its wines age; a blend of Nebbiolo and Croatina.
- La Gera: Valli Ossolane DOC Bianco, Chardonnay, White. A single-vineyard Chardonnay from the La Gera vineyard, planted on stony mountain soil.
- Munaloss: Vino Rosso, Red. A light-bodied red blending the area's typical grape varieties, in proportions that vary by vintage.
- Prünent: Valli Ossolane DOC Nebbiolo Superiore, Nebbiolo, Red. The estate's flagship wine, made mostly from century-old, ungrafted vines. Prünent is the local name for an ancient mountain clone of Nebbiolo, first documented in this valley in 1309.
- Prünent Diecibrente: Valli Ossolane DOC Nebbiolo Superiore, Nebbiolo, Red. A single-vineyard Prünent from a vineyard planted in 1920 in Pello di Trontano, a small production of about 2,600 bottles. The name recalls the "brenta", an old wooden measure used to transport wine.
- Prünent Vigna Fornace: Valli Ossolane DOC Nebbiolo Superiore, Nebbiolo, Red. A single-vineyard Prünent from the historic La Fornace vineyard in Crevoladossola, farmed by the estate since 2011; the vineyard appears in mid-19th-century travellers' postcards alongside the Napoleonic bridge.
- Tarlàp: Vino Rosso, Merlot, Red. The estate's only red made from an international variety: Merlot, introduced to the area from neighbouring Switzerland after the Second World War.
