Cantina dei Produttori Nebbiolo di Carema

Cantina dei Produttori Nebbiolo di Carema

The cooperative at Carema was founded in 1960 by ten local growers and now has 101 members, 71 of whom deliver grapes, nearly all of them part-time growers. Everything is grown inside the commune of Carema, in the far north-west of Piedmont on the Aosta Valley border, where Nebbiolo is trained on pergolas held up by white stone pillars on terraces cut into the rock. The production area is about 13 hectares and has been on the DOC register since 1967. Carema and Carema Riserva are the flagship reds, aged in large casks; alongside them come Paré, a Canavese Nebbiolo, the plainer reds and whites Türel and Tournet, a rosé and a rosé metodo classico called Lunaneuva. Maurizio Forgia is the oenologist and Manlio Muggianu looks after the cellar. Carema lies in the Ivrea moraine amphitheatre in the province of Turin, and has been a Slow Food Presidium since 2014.
