Ca' del Profeta

Ca' del Profeta

Ca' del Profeta is a small wine resort on the hilltop at Montaldo Scarampi, 17 km from Asti in the Monferrato astigiano, opened in the spring of 2021. The owner is the former footballer Hernanes, known as il Profeta, who fell for the area and built his home here. The name comes from that nickname, and the place mixes the flavours of Piedmont with a few Brazilian touches.

The estate wines come from the rows around the house, planted to the local varieties Barbera, Grignolino and Brachetto. There are four: Efraim and Profezia, both Barbera d'Asti, Saudade, a Grignolino d'Asti, and Momentum, a Brachetto. They are poured in the restaurant, where chef Antonio Di Leo cooks local, seasonal, zero-kilometre dishes. The relais has five rooms.

Wines from Ca' del Profeta

  • Efraim: Barbera d'Asti DOCG, Barbera, Red. The estate's top Barbera, from the vines surrounding the relais and given a year in oak.
  • Momentum: Piemonte Brachetto DOC, Brachetto, Sparkling. The estate's sweet, gently sparkling Brachetto.
  • Profezia: Barbera d'Asti DOCG, Barbera, Red. The fresher, fruit-led Barbera d'Asti of the estate, named for Hernanes's nickname.
  • Saudade: Grignolino d'Asti DOC, Grignolino, Red. A pale, fragrant Grignolino, the Monferrato's native red, named with the Portuguese word for longing, a nod to Hernanes's Brazilian roots.
