Balliano

Balliano

Cantine Balliano is a family winery in Grana Monferrato, in the Asti hills of the Monferrato. Great-grandfather Giovanni founded it in 1928, grandfather Armando expanded it, and Giovanni ran it until 2021. Today the fourth generation, Fiona and her husband Adriatik, is in charge. The cellar began with Barbera and later added Freisa, Dolcetto, Grignolino and Cortese, but the wine the family points to first is Ruchè, the local native variety. The site lists five bottles: Unicus (Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato DOCG), Passione (Barbera d'Asti DOCG), La Notte (Monferrato Dolcetto), Rubus (Freisa d'Asti) and Armonia (Piemonte Cortese). Grana lies in the province of Asti, a short drive from Castagnole Monferrato, the village that gives Ruchè its DOCG name.
