Azienda Agricola 499

Azienda Agricola 499 grew out of a friendship between Gabriele Saffirio, who owns the vines, and Mario Andrion, who makes the wines. The name is the altitude of Camo, a hamlet of Santo Stefano Belbo on one of the highest hills of the Langhe. The vineyards sit at around 500 metres, on slopes that pass 50 percent, where cooler air brings slow ripening and natural acidity. The aim from the start was to give Moscato and Freisa new standing, and the estate makes about 20,000 bottles a year. Besides Moscato d'Asti and Langhe Freisa, including the single-site Coste dei Fre, you will find Langhe Nebbiolo Sori del Mattino, Pinot Nero, a white called Enigma and a Metodo Classico Blanc de Blancs. Santo Stefano Belbo is the heart of the Moscato d'Asti zone and the birthplace of the writer Cesare Pavese.
